Meet Julie Barry

I remember having a very active imagination as a child.  Always creating SOMETHING.  Imaginary worlds, playing pretend with dolls and barbies, coloring and drawing of course, and probably my favorite, cutting and gluing! And I remember how that felt.  How grounded and connected I felt to the space around me, how peaceful and free in the space within.  Sadly, through my developmental years and adulthood, even though I was always crafting something, I lost that sense of wonder and connection to myself.  In the winter of 2021, when we were all trying to figure out who we were in the Time of Covid I took an online art class and was surprised to rediscover that deep connection I had with creativity.  Really with knowing myself as a creative being.

I had been working as a Marriage and Family Therapist for 10 years, so my mind was keen to realize how much the process of doing art revealed parts of me that has been hidden.  I started to introduce projects in session with clients and found creating to be a great tool in understanding how my clients perceived themselves in the world and how they approached challenges in their life. As they say in PFYS, how you do Art is how you do Life.

In my desire to grow personally as well as develop the skills to take clients to greater self-awareness, I enrolled in Paint from Your Soul to become a Facilitator.  I am still in awe as each participant the magic that happens as they allow this process to work within them and out on the canvas.  And I mean Magic!  It is always powerful, surprising, and healing.  It emphasizes what I have known all along, we already have everything we need within us, we are our own healers.  It is such a privilege to facilitate and witness this process of bringing what has been there all along out from within and onto the canvas, it’s like bringing people back to themselves.

About Me

I remember having a very active imagination as a child.

I was always creating something — imaginary worlds, playing pretend with dolls and Barbies, coloring and drawing, and probably my favorite, cutting and gluing. I remember how that felt: how grounded and connected I was to the space around me, how peaceful and free I felt inside.

As I grew older, even though I continued crafting and making things, I lost that deeper sense of wonder and connection to myself.

Finding My Way Back to Creativity

In the winter of 2021 — a time when many of us were questioning who we were and how we wanted to live — I took an online art class. I was surprised by what I rediscovered.

Through the process of creating, I felt that familiar sense of connection return — not just to art, but to myself. I remembered what it felt like to know myself as a creative being.

That experience stayed with me.

Where Art and Presence Meet

At the time, I had been working as a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over ten years. My training helped me recognize something important: the process of creating art revealed parts of us that often remain hidden.

I began introducing art-making into sessions and noticed how powerful it could be. Creating offered insight into how people perceived themselves, how they related to the world, and how they approached challenges in their lives.

As they say in Paint From Your Soul: how you do art is how you do life.

Becoming a Paint From Your Soul Facilitator

Wanting to deepen both my personal relationship with creativity and my ability to support others, I enrolled in Paint From Your Soul and became a certified Facilitator.

I am still in awe of what unfolds in each group.

As participants allow the process to work — within them and out on the canvas — something opens. The experience is often powerful, surprising, and deeply moving.

I sometimes call it magic. Not because it’s mysterious, but because it reminds us of something essential:
we already have what we need within us.

My Belief and My Role

I believe nothing is wrong with you.

You don’t need to be fixed, pushed, or improved.
You already carry wisdom, creativity, and inner knowing.

In Paint From Your Soul, I hold space as a teacher, guide, and fellow human. I offer structure where it’s helpful and freedom where it’s needed, trusting the creative process to reveal what is ready.

This work is not about talent.
It is about truth, presence, and trust.

It is a privilege to witness women reconnect with themselves — to see what has been there all along come forward, gently and honestly, onto the canvas.

A Note About My Background

I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified Paint From Your Soul® Facilitator. While my clinical training informs how I hold space — with care, ethics, and respect — Paint From Your Soul is not psychotherapy and does not involve diagnosis or treatment.

It is a creative, educational experience focused on self-discovery, presence, and building trust with yourself through art-making.
